Forgotten Memories After Doing Sex

One morning in August 2008, a married couple, Alice and Scott to have sex. Instead of feeling happy, Alice (59 years) were definitely confused and could not remember anything. Turns out she diseases Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) and the cause is sex.

“What day is this? Who’s our president?,” Alice asked Scott, as quoted by CNN, Thursday (5/11/2009).

Scott was then felt something was wrong with her. He immediately called 911 and asked the paramedics who picked up the phone. “After I told him what happened, the paramedics said that 911 it is a symptom of stroke and suggested that Alice was rushed to the hospital,” explained Scott.

However it after arriving at the hospital, she had not diagnosed a stroke. The doctor just said that Alice was hit by Transient Global Amnesia (TGA), which is a disease of memory loss or amnesia is one factor that triggered by sex.

For decades, the doctors tried to examine a rare neurological disease that usually occurs in patients over 50 years. The neurologist said, someone with the disease TGA knew who he was but was not able to recall recent events, where and how it happened.

This disease does not show any symptoms. However, TGA symptoms usually appear after a strenuous, such as sex, excessive exercise, immediately immersed in cold water or hot, heavy work or even shake his head.

“Doing the heavy activity of a sudden going to make the blood flow changes rapidly and significantly. This will affect the nervous system in the brain that are not used in shock,” said Dr. Louis Caplan, professor neurologist from Harvard Medical School.

When Alice arrived at the hospital, he kept asking what happened to him, where he now jokes and occasionally took a sudden cry. “Immediately I felt a chill and fear. He could laugh and cry at the same time,” said Scott.

An hour later, the doctor said, “The symptoms experienced by your wife are a rare but often occurs in older couples. Maybe you’re too hasty when having sex,” Caplan said that a stroke expert from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts .

Caplan said that the TGA symptoms usually appear after the climax. Patients who have migraine disease and headache more prone to TGA, especially if the headache was before having sex.

“I remember, the night before Alice was suffering from headaches but not taking any medication. And it is true, the next day after we did that, he suddenly amnesia,” says Scott.

The doctors from Johns Hopkins University said that the TGA symptoms that appear after sex caused by pressure within the blood vessels in the brain that triggers blood flow to the brain and cause delayed amnesia.

TGA usually only appear once in a lifetime, but there are also repetitive. To heal, it takes a drug that would stimulus and restore brain function to normal again. However, symptoms usually disappear TGA will slowly and gradually over time.
